He served as transport policy spokesman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag from 1989 to 2014. From November 2007 to the end of October 2021, he was president of the Hamburg Football Association (HFV). He was also a member of the board of the German Football Association (DFB).

In November 2007, he became president of the Hamburg Football Association (HFV) and a member of the board of the German Football Association (DFB). At the end of August 2021, Fischer announced his resignation as HFV chairman to facilitate a rejuvenation of the association's leadership. At the end of October 2021, Fischer was appointed honorary president of the HFV.

Member of Parliament

Fischer first won a seat in the Hamburg Parliament through the 1970 Hamburg state elections , which he held for three legislative periods until he resigned his mandate on February 5, 1981.

From 1980 to 2017, he was a member of the German Bundestag . There, from 1989 to 2014, he chaired the parliamentary group's working group on transport (from 1998 to 2005: transport, construction and housing; since 2005: transport, construction and urban development, reconstruction in eastern Germany), thus serving as the CDU/CSU parliamentary group's spokesperson on transport policy. During the 18th legislative period, he was a full member of the Committee on Transport and Digital Infrastructure and a substitute member of the Committee on Sport . From 1994 to 2014, he also chaired the Hamburg regional group within the CDU/CSU parliamentary group.

Dirk Fischer was directly elected to the Bundestag in 1987, 1990, 1994, 2009, and 2013, representing the Hamburg-North constituency . Otherwise, he always entered the Bundestag via the Hamburg state list . He was vice-captain of FC Bundestag , for whom he played 528 matches.
